Many people are busy building a business. No processes. No systems. They work their butts off doing all the work and have no freedom and low incomes. I teach people to build a company where they are the visionary and the business can run without them, be sold or become a legacy or passed down to their kids. Systems drive a company. A person doing all the work drives a business. Which do you want to be?
Like many of us I have years of “field research” in the world of work. I’m elated to be reDesigning a Company and did I make a few word Class Blunders.
Like my friend James used say “manure makes the best fertilizer.” I agreed to work with a partner and in no time at all we(mostly me) had made him the brand. I learned tons in the few years to follow.
Now I’m shifting my company out of neutral and driving in a different lane! I knew something, a countainer (perfect size to fit my years of hard work and a narrow focus (on Vocational Identity development of Middle School Students)and the heart shaped container that arrived turns out not only to fit in my dream, to expand the scale and scope beyond my imagination!
Love this David ad thanks for sharing!
Building a company not a business is one of the most important things I learned from you Terri. You have showed me how much more freedom and income I can have by being intention with developing systems!
Thank you!
Barbra,
Thanks for jumping in.
What is the difference between a business and a company?
A business is when it is just you. You are typically trading dollars for hours. If you don’t work you don’t make money. A company has systems, structure, and automation in place so it can run with or without you. With a company you have the freedom to work when you want too and vacation when you want too….
You nailed it.
Might be an interesting forum topic for you to begin an moderate:)
“Wait..what’s the difference?”
This distinction between a business and a company is the first tectonic shift in mind set. For all the business/marketing concepts, ideas, books, seminars, experience and mentors I put down each tool and pick up a heart-filled tool to replace it. I take comfort in connecting with other Heartreprenuers in various stages of development in their business and witness
them learning to “find a way make a way”equipped with all the resources, comradery and accountability needed to
do your passion with authenticity, transparency and authenticity.
“She who leads must follow” Many of us spend a great deal making business decisions based on our story. To discover a tried and true system that Terri has had years of success providing outstanding service to her client family members who are living their passions because they jumped in and took action and committed to following a specific process step by step and as prescribed. As Heartreprenuers we may resist this because of our attachment to old ways of thinking when in fact we were giving away our most valuable commodity—Our Time!
I have more to say about this another time. I couldn’t have imagined this “business movement” with thousands of like minded. Every now and then something that appears to good to be true is in fact true.
